factors affecting transpiration

Cards (4)

  • Increase temperature = increase transpiration. The kinetic energy of water molecules increases so the evaporation rate increase.
  • Increase in humidity = decrease transpiration. The water potential between the inside of the leaf and the air decreases.
  • Increase in air movement = increase transpiration. Increase rate of evaporation because it removes the boundary layer so increased water potential gradient
  • Increase in light intensity = increase transpiration.
Increased photosynthesis rate = increased number of stomata open = increased surface area for water loss = increased rate of evaporation/transpiration
