  • Q18. Why is bone considered a “dynamic tissue” throughout life? Refer to the different cell types in bone.
  • Bone is considered a "dynamic tissue" because it is constantly undergoing remodeling throughout life. This process involves the continuous resorption of old bone tissue and the formation of new bone tissue.
  • Cells involved in the dynamic tissue:
    • osteoblasts
    • osteocytes
    • osteoclasts
  • Osteoblasts are the bone-forming cells. They produce the organic matrix of bone and are responsible for mineralizing the bone tissue. Active during bone formation and repair.
  • Osteocytes were once osteoblasts. Maintain the bone matrix and communicate with other bone cells to regulate bone remodeling. Sense mechanical stress and signal osteoblasts and osteoclasts to adjust bone formation and resorption.
  • Osteoclasts are bone-resorbing cells. Break down bone tissue by secreting acids and enzymes that dissolve mineralized matrix and degrade organic components. Essential for bone remodeling, makes way for new bone formation and regulates calcium levels in the blood.
