  • Electrocephalogram (EEG)

Measures electrical activity in the brain via electrodes that are fixed onto an individuals scalp.
The recording represents brainwave patterns that are generated from the action of millions of neurons which provides overall account of brain activity.
  • EEG strengths
    • High temporal resolution, they can accurately detect brain activity at a resolution of a single millisecond
    • Useful in the diagnosis of conditions such as epilepsy
  • EEG weakness
    • Not useful at pinpointing the exact source of neural activity
    • Cannot tell us about activity in deeper parts of the brain
