  • S-supporting evidence to show that CBT and REBT are effective in reducing the symptoms of moderate and severe depression and in preventing relapse. Ellis claimed a 90% success rate of REBT, taking an average of 27 sessions to complete the treatment. David et al compared the effectiveness of REBT, CBT and drug therapy. All three were comparably effective at the end of the treatment. At a 6 months follow up, there was evidence that REBT was more effective than the other two forms of therapy....
  • (S-supporting evidence for the effectiveness of CBT and REBT)...This suggests that cognitive treatments are effective and that REBT is the most effective in the long term and perhaps should be seen as the first choice treatment for depression
  • W-CBT is that the competence of the therapist has a significant impact and leads to variation in its outcomes. Kuyken found that as much as 15% of the variance in outcome may be attributed to therapist competence. They found that the therapists who were assessed as most competent had better patient outcomes' regardless of the complexity of the case. Problematic because the quality of treatment may depend on ability of therapists and possibly the patient therapist relationship. It may not work as well for everyone. Thus reducing the effectiveness of the treatment
