you can think of pressure as the pushing effect of a force
to increase the pushing effect of the force:
increase the force on the knfe (as the force increases, the pressure increases)
use a sharper knife which has less surface areas in contact with the clay (as the area decreases, the pressure increases)
Pressureβ¨
force/area (division)
Unit of pressureβ¨
nwtons per mtre squared / N/m^2
(m depends on the unit ex; mm, cm, km)
some things have larger areas to decrease pressure; others have small areas to increase pressure
Examplesβ¨
a camel has large feet so the pressure on the sand is decreased leading to the camel not sinking in the sand
when some1 is lying on nails the weight of them on hundreds of sharp nails causes the pressure from each nail to be very small
a sharp pointed nails small pressure means it will easily go into wood or card, but the other sides larger surfeces decreased pressure will not go into your finger
a scissors sharp blade and small area along the blade increases pressure, making things easier to cut
