Variables

Cards (6)

  • Variables- things which make a difference to the way your experiment turns out.
  • Independent variable(IV)- purposefully(can be or not) manipulated by the researcher
  • Dependent variable(DV)- the variable that is measured or changed by the independent variable.
  • operationalising- to add specifics/measurements e.g. (g,ml)
  • Extraneous variable(EV)- another factor which has an effect on the DV which is not the IV, things which are out of the experimenters control e.g. how much sleep a participant had before the experiment.
  • Cofounding variable(CV)- when the EV actually has an effect on the DV
