    • Physical education - is an integral part of the educational program designed to promote the optimum development of the individual physically, socially, emotionally, and mentally through total body movement in the performance of properly selected physical activities. (Andin, 1988).
    • Phyiscal Education - It is an interdisciplinary study of all areas of science relating to the transmission of physical knowledge and skills to an individual or a group, the application of the skills, and their strengths. Instruction in various kinds of physical activity promotes the physical development and well-being of the individual. 
    • Physical education is generally taught in pre-school, elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels.  Sports and Recreation and Leisure is the proper classification for physical education both from a logical perspective. It provides opportunities for socialization as well as for the development of the capacities of the individual.

      1. It develops optimum physical fitness and health of the individual so that he is capable of living the “good life” and of contributing to his maximum capacity to the attainment of the goals of the New society.

      2. It produces individuals who can contribute to economic well-being through:
      • the improvement of proper work habits and work attitudes, such as punctuality, cooperation, reliability, precision and accuracy, and open-mindedness.
      • proper emphasis on problem-solving skills such that an individual can identify a problem correctly and master the skills necessary or useful in school and in the business world.

      3. It trains good leaders with moral integrity of the highest order, and develops other desirable traits necessary for effective group participation or group living essential to the New Society.

      1.“The state shall promote Physical Education and encourage sports program, league competitions, and amateur sports including training for international competition to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.

      “Physical Education and sports is a fundamental right to all and this right should not be treated as different principle from the right to adequate food, shelter, and medical care”.
    • Main Goal
      Fitness is the main goal of physical education. To live “good life” means to have an ability to live healthy, satisfying and useful life. This means that an individual satisfies his basic needs as physical well-being for love, affection security, and self-respect.
    • Objectives of Physical Education
      1. Total human development of an individual through properly and carefully selected physical activities in terms of their physical, social, emotional, and well-being.
      2. To equip students with the knowledge, skills, capacities and values along with the enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle into adulthood.
      3. To promote physical fitness, to develop motor skills, to instill knowledge and understanding of rules, concepts and strategies, and to teach students to work as part of a team, or as individuals, in a wide variety of competitive activities.
