    • Milestones are stages in development
    • Birth
      If held to close to a parents face, a baby can focus on it
    • 1 month
      Starts to smile, eyes follow a moving light, can hold head erect for a few seconds
    • 3 months
      Can lift head, eyes will follow a person, kicks vigorously
    • 5 months
      Can reach out for objects and hold them, is starting to make noises
    • 6 months
      Can move objects from hand to hand, starts to eat solid foods, able to lift head and chest, supported by arms
    • 9 months
      Can sit without support, starts teething, responds to your voice
    • 12 months
      Can crawl and pull themselves upright, may walk without support, uses pincer grip
    • 18 months
      Walks well, feet apart. Runs carefully. Walks upstairs, creeps backwards downstairs
    • 2 years
      Runs on whole foot. Can throw a small ball puts at least 2 words together
    • 2 ½ years
      All locomotive skills now improving. Runs and climbs. Kicks large ball
    • 3 years
      Sits with feet crossed at ankles. Walks upstairs using alternative feet. Can cut with scissors and paint with large brush
    • 3 - 5 years
      Can run climb, walk, ride a bike, play ball games and talk in sentences, starts using knife and fork
    • 5 - 10 years
      Movements well co ordinated. Body increases in height and mass. Can skip and run with agility and speed. Also learns to read
    • 11 - 19 years
      Can have a growth spurt, onset puberty, can be prone to mood swings, may develop skin problems
