ER

Cards (4)

  • Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Contains ribosomes to provide a large surface area for protein synthesis and synthesis of glycoproteins,
Provides a pathway for the transport of materials (especially proteins) throughout the cell.
  • Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Has no ribosomes, is more 'tubular'
It synthesises, stores and transports lipids and carbohydrates
  • Ribosomes
Made up of ribosomal RNA (rRNA)
Cytoplasmic granules (can be free in the cytoplasm) or attached to rough ER
Two types: 70s (prokaryotic), 80s (eukaryotic)
