• How is the cell wall strong?

  It is made up of a matrix of microfibrils of cellulose
• What is the middle lamella?

  A thin layer that marks the boundary between adjacent cell walls, and cements adjacent cells together
• What is the function of the cell wall?

  Provides mechanical strength in order to prevent the cell from bursting under pressure (created by the osmotic entry of water)

  To give mechanical strength to the plant as a whole

  To allow water to pass along it
• What are cell walls made of?

  Cellulose, glycoproteins or a mixture of both.
• What is the cell wall of fungi made out of?

  Chitin
