Disadvantages

• Ignores the important variable of migration but also considerable impact on the population of a country. Levels of immigration in a country gets more economically developed- Arguably, this would have definite impact on the populations of countries in stages 3, 4 and 5
• It needs to be updated, and we are not sure about stage 5 of the model. DR could be increasing as a country that has the most economically developed stages perhaps due to diseases of affluence increase such as heart disease and dementia.
