  • Development gap
    refers to the widening difference in levels of development between the world's richest and poorest countries
  • When describing a trend in HDI scores:
    1. trend, e.g. most countries in the northern hemisphere have a high HDI
    2. For example e.g. the USA has a score of 0.9, UK and Canada as well
    3. anomaly or analysis , e.g. this means that these countries must have a high literacy rate and have high GNI and lots of people are in education
  • To improve quality of life in LICs , must reduce the development gap
    To do this, LICs need to:
    • grow the economy (economic)
    • Invest in people and social care (social)
    • Protect the environment (environmental)
