Naming esters
1st name comes from the
alcohol
e.g.
Methanol
would be methyl, ethanol would be ethyl etc
2nd name comes from the
carboxylic acid
e.g. methanoate, ethanoate and
propanoate
Acid hydrides naming
E.g. CH3COOCOCH3 would form
ethanoic
anhydride
Also if there is two different
carboxylic acids
so ethanoic and propanoic the names would go in
alphabetical
order forming
ethanoic
propanoic
anhydride
Acid chlorides naming
The longest
carbon chain
with the suffix
-oyl
and chloride at the end
e.g. CH3COCl would be
ethanoyl chloride
