Shekinah
–
The place where God’s
presence rests and can
be felt
Exodus
25
:
8
“They shall make a
Sanctuary for me…so that
I may dwell among
them.”
The Jews carried the
tabernacle
on their journey after the
exodus
from
Egypt
maintaining their
connection
with
God.
The
Temple
was destroyed in
Roman times
, all that is left is the
Wester Wall.
Some believe that the
Shekinah
is still especially present there today as it is what is left of the dwelling place for
God.
The
Shekinah
will also be present if:
Two people are engaged with the Torah
Ten
pray together
Kind actions
Sins
cause the Shekinah to depart.
God is usually referred to as a
‘He’
, however
‘Shekinah’
is a
feminine
word in Hebrew. For this reason
some Jews believe that the
Shekinah
refers to the
female
aspect of God that can be felt in the world.
