Tempature core practical(rates of reaction )

Cards (6)

  • Aim:to investigate the effect of changing tempature on the rate of reaction between sodium thiosukfate and hydrochloric acid by observing a colour change
  • Method:
    • Eye protection
    • 250cm^3 conical flask
    • 10 and 50cm^3 measuring cylinder
    • Stop clock
    • Test tube and rack
    • Water bath
    • White paper with cros
    • Dilute hydrochloric acid
    • Sodium thiosulfate
  • Method
    1. Place 10cm^3 of sodium thiosulfate solution and 40cm^3 of water into the conical flask
    2. Measure 5cm^3 of dilute hydrochloric acid into test tube
    3. Put conical flask at chosentempature, room or 50° and record it in water bath
    4. After 5 min remove conical flask and place it on paoer with black cross
    5. Add the acid and start stopwatch
    6. Stop it when you can't see cross and repeat with other chose tempature
  • High tempatures makes particles move quicker making more collisions and increase energy. Reactions only happen if particles collide with enough energy
  • At high tempature more successful collisions so increases rate of reaction
  • Reactants - products for bond energy calculations
