Individual Motivation

• Marxist theory explains how the importance of economic self-interest, greed and personal gain is increasing. Capitalist society is based on competition and consumerism (buying things), such as wanting the newest phone. People who live in poverty are not able to compete in the consumer world, such as buying the newest phone, and this can cause them to commit crimes because of relative deprivation.
