• Farrington and Morris 1983: women were not more leniently sentenced 
• Box 1981: review of British and American self-reports show women who commit serious crime are not sentenced harsher 
• Buckle and Farrington 1984: observational  study of shoplifting in department stores shows 2X as many men shoplifting despite official stats showing equal amounts. Female shoplifters are more likely to be prosecuted. 
• Hales et al 2009: men significantly more likely to be under the influence of illegal drugs 
• 2012: only 8% of the females who had been victims of serious sexual assault, reported it.
• Yearnshire 1997: a women typically suffers 35 assaults before reporting domestic violence
