Atypical gender development

• Gender dysphoria - a condition where individuals experience a mismatch between their biological sex and the sex they 'feel' they are
• Individuals with GD identify much more with the opposite sex that the one they were identified as at brith.
• Diagnostic criteria for GD condition:

  • "trapped in body"
  • Experience of feeling trapped mush persist for 6 months
  • Must feel distressed in social functionings
• Many kids show GD between 2-4 but this stops at adolescence
