  • The celebration of local languages and cultures became a sign of disloyalty to the soviet union, and so was no longer encouraged or accepted.
  • Russian language and culture was viewed as superior and so all schools no matter what area had to teach Russian as a second language.
  • During the purges, those who expressed creative freedom through teaching, art, song or writing were arrested due to Stalin's policy of Socialist realism being the only permitted art form.
