  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI is a non-invasive imaging technique used to examine the structure of the living brain. It relies on magnetic fields and radio waves to map hydrogen protons found in water molecules, producing detailed two-dimensional and three-dimensional images of brain structures. MRI is commonly used in psychology to study brain localization and neuroplasticity.
  • Key Features of MRI:
    • Produces high-resolution images of brain structures.
    • Uses magnetic fields and radio waves to detect hydrogen molecules.
    • Can be used to observe brain abnormalities or structural changes.
    • Two common analysis techniques:
    • Voxel-based morphometry (VBM): Measures gray matter volume.
    • Pixel counting: Calculates the area of brain structures.
