3.9A Local sourcing

• Sustainable development = Development that meets the needs of the future without compromising the needs to the future generation
• Localism = goods that were once locally sourced are now imported

  -> local groups start promoting local sourcing, to try to increase sustainability
• Transition towns = encourages towns to grow their own food in community gardens and reduce energy used in transport, e.g. cycling

  • Aims to support local economy but also be environmentally friendly
  • have their own local currency
