The Divorce Reform Act widened the ground of divorce which made it easier to obtain and included a single ground for divorce, called the 'irretrievable breakdown of marriage'
The irretrievable breakdown of marriage can include;
Adultery
Unreasonable behaviour
Desertion for a period, of at least 2 years
Two year separation if both agree to divorce
Five year separation if there is no agreement to divorce
There is a range of reasons for the increase of divorce including;
