  • Senator Huey Long
    Governor of Louisiana + became a senator after successful reforms to help Louisiana before the New Deal.
    • Thought the NRA was controlled by big business
    • Thought wealth should be shared, e.g. tax heavy on the rich and give to the poor (Socialist views)
    • 8 million American's joined his 'club'
    • He was shot dead in may 1935 but believed he may have been voted for in the 1936 election - arrogant.
  • Share our wealth programme
    Huey Long proposed this as an alternative to the New Deal.
    It was set up in 1934 and involved the heavy taxing of rich people, taking away all of their annual income (over $1.8 million) and giving it away to ordinary Americans
    He stated that by using this principle everyone could receive what they were supposed to - a minimum of $2500 a year.
    This idea was popular, with 8 million joining 'share our wealth' clubs.
    Long was very powerful also.
    He had an objection to big businesses and criticised the ND mainly because the NRA was controlled by a big business
