  3. Help Lebanese gov restore peace
• 23rd March 1978: UNIFIL arrives in Lebanon.

  13th June: Israel forces withdraw

  But: Leave SLA in charge of territory taken (South Lebanese Army)

  UN weakened

  • UNIFIL ignored, SLA attack UNIFIL (8 killed)

  PLO start shelling Israel in 1979

  Israel says UN is sympathetic toward Palestine
