Causes of opposition

• The Quraysh were Idol worshippers and had set up 360 idols In the kaaba.
• The Quraysh did not believe in life after death or the day of judgement and were furious when they heard the prophet say that their idol worshipper ancestors would suffer in hell.
• The Quraysh were a class conscious society and we're not ready to be held equal to people they despised or lose their superior position.
• Since Islam shunned all kinds of vices like drinking, gambling, stealing, fornication, adultery and plundering, The Quraysh did not want to leave their old way of life.
• The Quraysh also thought that a prophet should be an angel or a rich and influential leader of Makkah, not an orphan.
• The Quraysh were the custodians of Kaaba which gave them religious and social prestige and gave them economic gains, therefore they did not want to give this up to Islam.
