• Security is a benefit of wired networks as it is easier to implement security measures inside a wired network, such as firewalls. Additionally a device must be physically connected through a cable to access it.
• Reliability is a benefit of wired networks as using a wired connection is not subject to issues like interference, and additionally only a certain number of devices can connect to a certain channel at once.
• Speed is a benefit of wired networks as they often have a higher bandwidth: cat6 is 10gbps max vs 5Ghz 40MHz 300mbps. Additionally the latency (time for data to be sent and received) is lower in wired
• Another benefit of wired networks are that it cannot suffer from blackspots where wireless signals cannot pass through things (thick walls etc), on the other hand wired can still transmit in such a situation
• Time consumption is a significant drawback of wired networks as it is significantly more time consuming to install a wired network vs a wireless network. Aside from running the cables you also have to connect all the hardware such as routers, and switches - that also have to be configured.
• Accessibility is drawback of wired networks as a device must have a port for an network cable, and you must have a wire.
• The lack of mobility is a drawback of wired networks as the internet cable connection reduces a devices mobility significantly
• Maintenance is harder with wired networks as oftentimes servers are needed to manage a large number of devices connection to the network.
