  • Labelling by the teacher or other students can result in another student underperforming as they then may live up to the label causing a self-fulfilling prophecy as these students will live up to this self-fulfilling prophecy making it their master status and this can lead to the students not trying as much as they can because they have been labelled.
  • Halsey, Heath and Ridge believed that where you started in life affect your journey and the rest of your life - they found that men from lower class groups had a higher chance of leaving school before 16 and those in the higher class groups had a higher chance of going to university. This suggests that there isn’t much meritocracy and that there is a clear link between class and achievement.
