Khadija was the daughter of Khuwaylid ibn Asad. She belonged to a wealthy family of the Quraysh.
Khadijas father had left her with a large fortune.
Khadija had been married twice before the prophet PBUH and had been widowed both of those times.
Khadija had 3 children from her previous 2 marriages whose names were Harith, Hind and Hinda.
Khadija used to send her merchandise for trading to other countries and that's why the Prophet PBUH was recommended to the her for his honesty and trustworthiness. Khadija sent her slave Maysarah with the prophet on trip to Syria. When the prophet came back, he brought huge profits and Maysarah spoke highly of him. Khadija was very impressed and proposed marriage through her friend Nafeesa. The prophet accepted the proposal after consulting his uncle.
At the time of marriage, the prophet was 25 and Khadija was 40.
The prophet had 6 children with Khadija of which 2 were sons. Both the sons, Qasim and Abdullah died in infancy. His four daughters were Zainab, Ruqayyah, Umme Kulsoom and Fatimah.
The marriage with Khadija freed the prophet from financial struggles.
Khadija was a devoted and loving wife. She stood by him in hardship and trial. She supported him wholeheartedly through his journey as a prophet and especially in the early days of revelation.
Khadija was the only wife of the prophet who suffered the early days of persecution and Boycott of Banu Hashim.
Khadija died in the 10th year of prophethood.
Aisha said, "I was not jealous of any other wife of the prophet but Khadija as the prophet constantly mentioned her and because god had commanded Muhammad to give her good tidings of a mansion in paradise made of previous stones".
