  • Safiyas real name was Zainab and her father's name was Hayy bin Akhtab, the chief of Banu Nadir, the bitterest enemy of the prophet.
  • Safiya was married to Salam bin Mahakam, but he divorced her and then she was married to Kinanah bin Abu Haqeeq but he was killed in the 6th year of Hijrah when Khyber fell to the Muslims. Safiya was a captive, but she appealed to the prophet and so he married her and she was renamed Safiya.
  • The other wives of the prophet were jealous because of her beauty.
  • The daughter of the prophet, Fatimah got along well with Safiya.
  • Once the prophet found Safiya weeping, after asking he found out that Hafsah taunted her because of her Jewish origin.
  • Safiya was a generous lady who gave most of her ornaments to the poor
  • Safiya was fond of hearing the prophet preach and attended his sermons.
  • Safiya also sided with Usman during the turmoil and would bring him food and water when he was besieged.
  • Safiya died in 50 AH and was buried in Jannat ul Baqee.
