Zainab Binte Jahash

• Zainab was the daughter of Jahash
• Zainab Binte Jahash was a cousin of the prophet by relation of daughter his aunt.
• Zainab Binte Jahash was initially married to Zaid bin Haris who was a freed slave and the adopted son of the prophet. She and her brother were hesitant towards the relation but bowed before the wishes of the prophet. The marriage turned out to be a failure and Zayd divorced Zaynab.
• The prophet married Zainab Binte Jahash after a divine revelation.
• Zaynab received a dowry of 400 dirhams.
• Once Zainab Binte Jahash cookedna special dish which smelt like Maghafir and the prophet likes it. The other wives found a problem with it a smell out of jealousy and the prophet swore he would not taste it again. However a divine revelation came which forbid him from forsaking something which Allah has made lawful to him to please his wives.
• Zaynab was the only wife of the prophet who refused help from any quarter after the death of the prophet. Umar once sent her 1200 dirhams, but she gave it to the poor without keeping anything for herself. She used to do needlework for a living.
• She was the first wife to die after him and died at the age of 53 in 20 AH and was buried in Jannat ul Baqee.
