Devonport, Plymouth is located in the south west of England and is on the south coast.
Devonport was originally established as a navaldockyardtown due to being located on the natural deep water harbour called the PlymouthSound
After WW2, the navy enclosed Devonport's town centre by a wall, splitting the community in two and displacing residents to apartments not suited for family living.
There was a decrease in naval jobs after WW2 due to a lack in funding. This led to deindustrilisation in the area.
Community groups such as the PembrokeStreetEstate Management Board (PSE Management Board) have been heavily involved in the regeneration of Devenport
From 2001 to 2011, Devonport benefitted from the New Deal for Communities initiative (NDCs)- which was given to improve some of the most deprived areas of the UK. The NDC addressed employment, health, education, and place-related outcomes, such as; community, crime, and housing.
