Electron transport system/chain

    Cards (4)

    • The NADH molecules produced in the kerbs cycle move to the inner membrane (cristae) of the mitochondrion where they break down to release high energy electrons and protons
    • These electrons pass along a series of chemicals that form an electron transport chain
    • The energy is released by the electrons as they pass along the chain is used to convert ADP molecules to ATP
    • at the end of the electron transport chain the electrons combine with oxygen and hydrogen ions to form water
