  • impairment: becomes a disability when it makes something impossible someone to do something. glasses is an impairment
  • disability: people develop an identity of disability when their body does not conform to this stereotype even if their impairment does not stop them from stopping everyday activities

    the social model: looking at fixing society and roads etc. tries to make peoples lives easier

  • master status; people who have a disabled identity, tend to be seen as not being able to have talent or skill without their disability being their identifier - they may not have much choice in the matter of this happening
  • Goffman (1963): as a result of stereotypes, people may be excluded from participating in certain things in life, by assumption e.g. dating, wants and needs, constant needing of help... they could be treated as inferiors -> talking about them instead of talking to them
