    • Diabetes is caused by the pancreas not making sufficient insulin [type 1] or the body's cells are not receptive to insulin [type 2]
    • Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin
    • In both types, blood glucose concentration is not decreased and glycogen is not created.
    • Symptoms of diabetes include fatigue, thirst, high blood sugar, and chronic complications to the eyes kidneys and heart.
    • To treat type 1 diabetes you can inject the patient with insulin just after eating or have an organ transplant.
    • To treat type 2, the patient must exercise frequently and have a healthier diet.
    • Pancreas transplants can be risky as lymphocytes and macrophages may identify the new pancreas as foreign and will release antibodies in order to destroy the pancreas.
