Coalition Government Policies From 2010

Cards (4)

  • Academies: schools encouraged to leave local authority control and become academies. Whereas New Labours Academies policy was targeted at disadvantaged schools, the Coalition government, by allowing all schools to become an academy, removed the focus on reducing inequality
  • Free Schools: new state funded schools set up by parents or teachers. They are not run by the Local Authority but instead are ran by parents, teachers, faith organisations or local authority
  • Policies that aimed at reducing inequality:
    Free School Meals
The Pupil Premium - money that schools receive for each pupil from a disadvantaged background
  • OFSTED (2012) found that in many cases, the Pupil Premium is not spent on those it is supposed to help.
