  • What is meant by the term democracy?
    ‘Rule by the people’ the society is run by everyone in it.
  • Where does the idea of democracy have its roots?
    In Ancient Greece, however, free male citizens were in charge and the work was done by slaves and women who had no say in what was happening.
  • What is the aim of democracy?
    To change the authority of the monarchy to make sure that decisions were made by property-owning men. This allows individual citizens to elect their parliament representatives.
  • What is the difference between a dictatorship and a democracy?
    Dictatorship is when the power is concentrated for small groups whereas a democracy allows citizens to participate in the political debates so they have a say of what happens to them and in their society.

    The laws that those within society have to follow.

    Something that is usually done
  • What is pluralism?
    The government of that time will make the decisions but those who aren’t the government at that time can try to influence their decisions
  • What would Marxists say about democracy?
    Those who have the most power will get the most influence over the decisions however working class people will have little or no impact on the government's decision.
  • What is a referendum?
    What was the most recent referendum that we held in the UK? A national vote on a single issue, the most recent one is Brexit.
  • What is a pressure group and how do you get involved in one?
    They are organisations with similar opinions and they try to influence those in power.
