  • Advent comes from the word "adventus", which means "arrival" or "coming" of Jesus Christ.
  • The symbol of Advent is the Advent wreath, which is a circular wreath with 4 candles.
  • The symbol color of Advent is violet/purple, which represents royalty because Jesus Christ is the King of all kings.
  • Circle symbolizes the never ending love of Christ
  • 1st Candle/Hope: Prophecy candle (purple) - Isaiah’s foretelling of the birth of Christ. Stated that messiah is coming.
  • 2nd candle/Love: Bethlehem Candle (purple) - Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem before Mary gave birth to Jesus.
  • 3rd Candle/Joy: Shepherd's Candle (pink) - the birth of Jesus Christ. They rejoice when they heard the savior was born.
  • 4th Candle/Peace: Angel's Candle (purple) - It reminds us of the message of the angels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.” Jesus comes to bring Peace to the world and to people's hearts.
