Circulatory System

Subdecks (2)

Cards (37)

  • Vena Cava - bring deoxygenated blood to the heart
  • Right Atrium - recieves deoxygenated blood from body via vena cava
  • Tricuspid valve - prevents backflow in Right atrium
  • Right Ventricle -contracts sending blood out of heart
  • Semilunar valve AKA Pulmonary valve - prevents backflow into heart
  • Pulmonary artery - sends deoxygenated blood to lungs and is the only deoxygenated artery in the body
  • Pulmonary vein - oxygenated blood brought to heart, only oxygenated vein in body
  • Left atrium - receives oxygenated blood from lungs via the pulmonary valve
  • Bicuspid Valve/Mitral Valve - an atrioventricular valve on the left side of the heart preventing backflow into the left atrium
  • Left ventricle - largest chamber of the heart, pumps blood to entire body, very muscular
  • Semilunar valve/ Aortic valve - prevents backflow of blood into the right ventricle
  • Aorta - main artery, sends oxygenated blood to entire body
    • THe left side of the heart is oxygenated
    • The septum separates the heart oxygenated and deoxygenated side
    • The aorta is the main artery
    • The vena cava is the main vein
  • Artery - thick and elastic walls, small lumen, high pressure, from heart, no valves
  • Vein - thin walls, large lumen, low pressure, to heart, valves present
  • Capillary -fine walls [one cell thick], fine lumen, high pressure, inbetween artery and veins, absent valves
