  • He was 28 years old and unmarried - no heir, or any indication of an heir.
  • Brought up in Wales and Brittany (France). He had no experience of England.
  • Henry had never had an administrative government before.
  • No money.
  • Support from dubious members of the nobility (the Stanleys) who could turn against him the way they did Richard.
• Henry 7's key priorities:

  • To establish and secure his right to the throne - to find a wife/queen who could provide heirs.
  • To strengthen the royal government by better control of the nobility.
  • To strengthen the monarchy and kingdom for the future by ensuring a strong financial foundation.
