  • Laylat al-Qadr, also known as the Night of Power, commemorates the night on which God first revealed the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad through the angel Jibril.
  • During one of his retreats, on Laylat al-Qadr, the angel Jibril appeared to Muhammad and commanded him: “Iqraʾ!” which means “Recite”.
  • Laylat al-Qadr is the holiest night of the year in the Muslim calendar.
  • Muslims try to stay awake for the whole night to pray and study the Qur’an on Laylat al-Qadr.
