Civil rights movements in America include Brown v Board of Topeka (1954),
the Montgomery Bus Boycott (1955-1956), Little Rock (1957), the March on
Washington (1963), Civil Rights Acts (1964), and the Voting Rights Act (1965).
These movements, led by governments, peaceful activists, and violent groups
like the Black Power movement, fought for equal treatment of African
Americans in housing, unemployment, and politics. Notable examples include
Linda Brown's right to attend an all-white school, Rosa Parks' arrest for sitting
in a white section, and Malcolm X's murder in 1965.
