Crime : Box

Cards (1)

  • All classes commit crime but we crime is highlighted
BOX argues the bourgeoisie have (through official statistics) created a stereotypical criminal - a young, black , working class male. This stereotype is accepted by mainstream society; it contains people from less powerful groups. The stereotypical criminal is also more likely to live in an inner city where there’s more police attention: police records show that this person is more likely to be arrested and charged; reinforcing the stereotype. The stereotype is known as a typification.
