  • USA was more willing to invest in Spain's economy. During the period of 1960-74 foreign investment amounted to $7.6 billion and a further $1 billion in loans. USA accounted for 40% of this investment, a reflection of its desire to maintain Spain as an ally against communism.
  • Germany and Britain accounted for 20% of foreign investment.
  • The increase in foreign loans encouraged the modernisation of the Spanish economy. By 1970, the Spanish car, electronics and chemical industries were all attracting significant sums of foreign investment
