Gender : Girls mature earlier

Cards (2)

  • Girls mature earlier
By the age of 16 girls are estimated to be more mature than boys by up to 2 years.
In early childhood, the brain learns what is important and 'prunes' neural connections to be more efficient. In girls, who practice more language based activities than physical ones, more connections develop across the two hemispheres from the age of around 10 whereas boys only begin this process fully around the age of 15-16. This suggests that girls can process information differently (and more holistically) from a younger age than boys can.
  • Girls mature earlier
Therefore girls can pass GCSEs more easily than boys due to a more developed brain meanwhile boys‘ are still developing. Due to this girls excel at GCSE’s but boys excel at A- Levels; their brains are more developed.
