Topic 2

    Cards (11)

    • What is resolution?
Minimum distance two objects can be apart for them to appear as separate items.
    • How do Transmission Electron Microscopes work?
Electrons pass through a thin layer of specimen. Parts which absorb them appear darker.
    • How do Scanning Electron Microscopes work?
Beams of electrons from above to build a 3D image.
    • What is the homogenate?
      The resultant fluid after homogenation.
    • What is the nucleolus?
A region within the nucleoplasm, which makes rRNA and assembles ribosomes.
    • What is the nucleoplasm?
      The fluid within nucleus.
    • What three things are in the stroma?
      Enzymes, DNA, and ribosomes.
    • What happens to plasmids during binary fission?
They are replicated and passed on to daughter cells.
    • What are the three steps of binary fission?
DNA replicates and attaches to membrane, membrane grows and divides the cytoplasm, new cell wall forms.
    • What are the three stages of virus replication?
Inject DNA/RNA into a host cell, host produces proteins and genes, virus particles are assembled.
    • How do drugs disrupt the cell cycle? (2)
Prevent DNA from replicating, Interfere with spindle formation to prevent metaphase.
