  • The main aims of coastal management include protecting people from natural hazards such as flooding or erosion, conserving habitats and wildlife, maintaining recreational opportunities and preserving cultural heritage sites.
  • How does a sea wall work?
Reflects waves back out to sea, preventing erosion of the coast. Also acts as a barrier to prevent flooding.
    Pros:
    Effective, lasts 30-50 years,
    Cons:
Expensive to build and maintain, creates strong backwash which erodes the wall underneath, £1000-2000 per m.
