Evolution of Behaviour

Cards (3)

  • Natural selection- any genetically determined behaviour that enhances survival will be passed on through reproduction onto future generations, described by Charles Darwin (1859)
  • Genetic material that is successfully adapted for survival is passed on through generations, so certain behaviours have evolutionary purposes.
  • Animal studies can be used to investigate how behaviour has evolved- by taking two species which were once related and comparing their behaviours (e.g. mating, hunting..).
