  • A sea cliff is a vertical slope on the coastline which is formed due to marine erosion
  • Cliffs of moher co. Clare
  • The processes of marine erosion combine to form a sea cliff. Hydraulic action is the sheer force of the moving water
  • As destructive waves hit off the coastline the rock is weakened causing cracks in the rock
  • Compression increases the size of the cracks and joints, as the wave retreats the air in the crack escapss
  • This constant compression and release of air is called cavitation.
  • This wave action is concentrated in an area between high and low tide and eventually this area is eroded and a overhang develops
  • As it's eroded it eventually collapsed forming a steep cliff face.
