dealing with variables

Cards (5)

  • randomisation- the use of the chance to control for the effects of bias when designing materials and deciding the order of experimental conditions.
  • example of randomisation- presenting materials (eg words to be described) in a random order.
  • standardisation- keeping the procedure the same for all pps with the exception of the manipulation of the IV
  • single blind procedure- pp is unaware of the details of the experiment- eg the aim or condition they have been allocated to, attempts to control for effects of demand characteristics.
  • double blind procedure- neither the pps nor the researcher conducting the study are aware of the aims of the investigation, attempts to control for the effects of demand characteristics and investigagtor effects
