    1. Introductory rites:
    • Greeting and penitential rite.
    • An opportunity for forgive from God - preparation to receive the Eucharist.
  • 2. Liturgy of the word
    • Listen to the word of God.
    • Readings,Gospels and a homily.
    • The readings are from the Old and New Testament - a reminder of salvation history and the teachings of Jesus.
  • 3. Liturgy of the Eucharist:
    • The bread and wine are consecrated.
    • They become the body and blood of Jesus.
    • Catholics believe in transubstantiation (real presence).
    • They receive Jesus in communion.
  • 4. Concluding rites:
    • Final blessing and dismissal - ‘Go in peace of Christ“ - a reminder to live the mass our everyday lives.
  • Living in mass:
    • Serve God and help others.
    • Take on board the message received in the liturgy of the word and priest‘s homily and put it into practice.
    • Be forgiving towards others - remember Jesus atoned for the forgiveness of sin.
    • Spread the good news about Christ so that others may join God‘s kingdom.
    • Put faith into action and help - e.g. charity work.
